As a moderate to severe special education teacher, I see the struggle my students face everyday just to communicate their wants, needs, and interest. In my classroom we use evidence based methods called Augmentative and Alternative Communication with Core Vocabulary Words. This form of visual language is taught by modeling throughout the day, prompting students to use this visual language, and setting up naturalistic opportunities to incite the use of this language. The IPEVO IW2 would facilitate in setting up core vocabulary words on our whiteboard, mimic students current voice output device, and model this language with greater intention throughout our activities.
